Canada's Industrial Heritage.

Special Publications Released

The CIH is pleased to announce the publication of an important industrial
heritage documents.

We have been working on creating a reproduction of the “Plant News”, a series of monthly news publications issued by The Cockshutt Plow Company Limited, and its subsidiary the Cockshutt Moulded Aircraft Ltd, during the years of the Second World War.  These newsletters are an extraordinary chronicle of the people that worked in the factories of Cockshutt, their dedication to the war effort, their correspondence with employees who left the company to join the armed forces, and many things in their daily lives that we have largely forgotten:  The Victory Bond drives, the number of “girls” who moved from the East Coast to become wartime workers, the Annual Christmas gift boxes of socks and cigarettes to their family and friends overseas, and many more.

Steam Engines & Threshers

A Book by Mike Hand
Steam Engines & Threshers  An historical look at manufacturers in this industry in Southern Ontario

In this book, the author traces the life of twelve major manufacturers of steam engines and threshers as the hard work of farming gradually becomes more tolerable thanks to the development of mechanisation. Even though Southern Ontario was the home of the three major manufacturers of farm equipment in Canada during the nineteenth and early twentieth century, Massey Harris, Cockshutt Plow and International Harvester of Canada, none of these companies built threshing machines or steam traction engines.
