Cockshutt Plant News Vol 2 -1943
Special Publication Just Released
The CIHC is pleased to announce the publication of an important industrial
heritage document.

The Cockshut Plant News, a series of monthly news publications issued by The Cockshutt Plow Company Limited, and its subsidiary the Cockshutt Moulded Aircraft Ltd, during the years of the Second World War. These newsletters are an extraordinary chronicle of the people that worked in the factories of Cockshutt, their dedication to the war effort, their correspondence with employees who left the company to join the armed forces, and many things in their daily lives that we have largely forgotten: Ration Books, Victory Bonds, the number of “girls” who moved from the East Coast to become wartime workers, and many more. We have completed our work on The Cockshutt Plant News – A Wartime Chronicle - Volume 2 – 1943, and are publishing the 12 issues in a single bound volume at the full size at which they were originally issued. We have added a comprehensive alphabetical index of 2,900 names mentioned in the 12 issues, - including 331 men and women identified as part of the Brantford Cockshutt “family” in the armed services; a special “Honour Roll” listing those men who died, were wounded, who went missing, or became a prisoner of war; and a “Topical Index” of interesting articles.

Steam Engines Threshers

Steam Engines & Threshers

A Book by Mike Hand
Steam Engines & Threshers  An historical look at manufacturers in this industry in Southern Ontario

In this book, the author traces the life of twelve major manufacturers of steam engines and threshers as the hard work of farming gradually becomes more tolerable thanks to the development of mechanisation. Even though Southern Ontario was the home of the three major manufacturers of farm equipment in Canada during the nineteenth and early twentieth century, Massey Harris, Cockshutt Plow and International Harvester of Canada, none of these companies built threshing machines or steam traction engines.

Where Did They Go

Where Did They Go

A Book by Mike Hand
Where Did They Go  A look at several Southern Ontario industries
that once were the local community mainstay

In this book, the author follows the growth and disappearance of seven manufacturing companies in several different industries. Each was an important factor in the life of their community.
The enteprenours that founded and built them were all men who had to start with virtually nothing but their determination and skills. They all became well known names in their field, most with products that still show up in valued collections.
